Shop Policies & Common Questions

My goal is to respect you as a customer and in turn to be respected as a small  business  entrepreneur. It's important to familiarize yourself with my store policies before ordering (thank you in advance!). A more detailed list of FAQs are listed below for your interest.

1. Returns

All orders are personalized and therefore not re-sellable or refundable. You will approve a proof and item will be printed accordingly. If your item doesn't match your proof, please discuss with me and any designer errors will be rectified. TEXT & BACKGROUND colours: Please note that there are sometimes discrepancies between computer screens and printer settings. Most colours print within 95% accuracy, but there can be a slight variance.

2. Deposits & Payments

I do not ask for deposits before creating your design -- and this is on the good-will assumption that you will be ordering your product IMMEDIATELY upon design completion and that you will respond to my draft email. If you will not have the funds ready to purchase immediately, please respect my time and DO NOT order until you are ready. Full payment will be required up front by email transfer or credit card to put your order to production.

3. Design Fee Quotes

You will recieve a quote based on your original project idea. A couple of minor tweaks are included for free, but if your idea changes along the way and more work is required you will be requoted for additional Design Time (& fees). Please be sure of what you are wanting before requesting a draft.

4. Turnaround Times

Design time is usually 3 business days, and production time is typically 15 business days (after recieving full payment). Although not frequent, please understand that there can be unforseen circumstances such as family emergencies, illnesses and factory errors that can cause delays. Rest assured I run this one-person business as smoothly and as efficiently as I can, but I am human.

5. Copyright Concerns

Living Prints respects the work of all artists and photographers. If I feel your project may incorporate work by others, you may be asked to complete my Online Image Ownership Agreement (just like Walmart Photo Kiosk Machines ask you to do). It takes two minutes and is a simple way to protect myself and others. ALSO: My finished design may be replicated for others beyond your order. All projects are kept in my portfolio and may be used in future advertising, however if your project has indentifying information your permission will be asked beforehand.

How long does it take to get a print?

Depends. Just a straight print of your image with no design work? Takes 10-15 business days from payment date. With design work there is typically a bit of back and forth over emails to get the project details, and to get your digital draft approved. Add an extra 1-5 business days for that, then another 15 business days from the date you make your payment to get your print. Peak seasons can take longer ie. Christmas.

How do I get more information or place an order?

Click the Contact tab to view my phone number or to send me a message. When inquiring for a quote or to place an order, please include as many details as possible. See next question for what you should specify.

What details should I include in my inquiry?

  • Design Reference Info (ie. Design No# from my Gallery, or attach reference images.

  • Which Product? Thin Canvas, Deep Canvas or Framed Canvas.

  • What dimensions (in inches) and what orientation (landscape or portrait) .

  • Desired words (text), colours, other elements.

  • Attach any photo files relevant to your order, in highest resolution possible.

What size of artwork should I order?

I always recommend getting out your measuring tape at the spot where your piece will go (if possible), and visualize your piece in its place. Canvases come in ANY custom size as large as 44” x 90”. Here is a visual sizing guide with some popular sizes.

Will my final prints look the same as the digital proofs?

Yes, however there might be a slight variance of color because your display (desktop, tablet or smartphone) is most likely not set up with the same color profiling the as photo lab equipment. If the colours on your finished print are extremely inaccurate and you are not happy with the result, please see the return and exchange policy also listed under these FAQs. REVIEW your digital proof CAREFULLY, it will be printed as-is and typos are not considered a printing error.

Can I see a sample of your products before ordering?

I do not have a physical store, but if you are local I am able to meet up to show you a sample (no commitment to buy). I assure my products are of great quality and if you are not happy with the product when it arrives please contact me and I will do my best to rectify the issue. I am located in West Edmonton, AB (see map here).

Can I use photos taken by a professional photographer?

Yes, as long as you have your photographer's permission. You may be asked to complete the Online Image Ownership Agreement during the ordering process.

Can I use image I find on the Internet?

The short answer: sometimes. This is on a case by case basis, please email your image along with where you found it. I'll check out the copyright history and analyze image quality. You may be asked to complete the Online Image Ownership Agreement in order to proceed.

How do I know if my photos is good enough to use?

Image quality is a case by case basis, it depends on a variety of things but mainly how large you want your print to be. Submit your digital image as an attachment by email to info@livingprints.ca indicating how large you want to print it. I'll review it and let you know if it will print acceptably.

How do I send my images and what kinds of files do you accept?

Please email JPG, PSD or TIFF files to info@livingprints.ca . If they are too large to attach please email me and I will set up an online folder for you to upload to. If you are a member of Dropbox, you can also share a Dropbox folder with me.

What are LPs hours of service?

Living Prints is a home-based business, and work-family balance is very important to me. Standard hours of operation are M-F from 8 – 4 PM. Outside of that is not guaranteed, but I do occasionally respond to calls and emails on evenings and weekends. I may be able to accommodate outside of regular business hours for client meetings, please ask.

What is the return/exchange policy?

Due to the customized nature of my artwork, it cannot be returned or exchanged unless there is a physical problem with the piece. If your product was shipped and arrived damaged, notify LP within 24 hours of receiving it with photos and I will rectify the issue. If it has simply not turned out not as you expected, please advise immediately for discussion.

How much will my artwork cost?

I charge a design fee and a product fee. If you are just ordering a straight print of your existing image, you will only pay a product fee, please see the pricing guide. If your project will include text customization or editing of images, your design fee will depend on the extent of the work. Small edits can be $5, more complex collages with many elements can be $50+. To get an idea of costs, please check out the gallery which displays commonly-ordered pieces and their design fees.

*Pricing is generally by quote, so please submit your project idea and it will be reviewed and quoted.

What payment methods do you offer?

At this time I accept email money transfers, credit card, and cash dropped to the studio (by appointment only). In the future I will be setting up PayPal, I will advise when that is available.

When do I Pay?

Typically no payment is required until you have seen and approved a draft rendering of your design (this is at my discretion, sometimes a small deposit will be required for more extensive design work before drafts will be created). Due to the custom nature of the artwork, 100% payment is required before print will be produced. You will receive an invoice by email which you can pay via email, credit card or cash dropped off to my studio.

Do you offer volume discounts?

When you order 5+ pieces in the same order you will receive 10% off your products (not eligible on design fees).

Do you sell gift certificates?

Yes, available in any denomination. Makes a great gift!

How much is shipping?

Shipping fees within Canada range from $10 to $25+. I use Fedex, UPS and Canada Post depending on the area and urgency level. Please provide your postal code with your inquiry for a shipping quote. Shipping to the US is also available, please inquire.

How do you ship your artwork?

Products are packaged in custom sized boxes and include corner protectors and bubble wrap. Packages are insured and guaranteed. You will get an email with your tracking information once your product has shipped.

How are the canvases made and what are they made of?

Photos are digitally printed using a state of the art inkjet printer, using specially formulated archival ink to produce stunning, sharp images, brilliant colors. The poly-cotton 450 gsm, canvas is archival grade, and is heat-pressed sealed with a clear coating around every weave of the fabric to provide optimal protection from negative elements. High quality laminate films with UV stabilizers prevent your images from fading up to 200 years! Print is then stretched over a lightweight, durable wood frame. Each corner is meticulously cut, folded and tucked to create a professionally wrapped appearance.

Should I order a standard or deep canvas?

The standard is 0.75" deep and the deep is 1.75" deep. It is is a matter of personal taste, and price of course (deep is slighlty more expensive).

Do you offer different finishes (matte, gloss, etc)?

There are three options available: matte, gloss and semi-gloss. My personal preference is semi-gloss, which is a beautiful mix of matte and gloss--right in the middle. All prints are ordered as semi gloss, but if you would prefer matte or glossy surface please just ask.

Can you do multiple/panel canvases?

Yes, one image can be split up into several panels for a small design fee. 5+ prints receive a 10% discount, please inquire.

How long will my prints last?

Canvases are made with archival canvas material/inks, and are laminated with UV stabilizing films. They are designed for indoor use but could be hung outdoors in regions with low humidity levels and should be protected from rain despite its water resistant qualities. I recommend that you avoid hanging them in areas with direct sunlight but it is not a requirement. As long as you properly care for them they will last up to 200 years without any noticeable fading.

How do I care for my canvas?

The canvases are scratch and scuff resistant, but for general dusting I recommend using a soft micro-fibre or terry cloth or household dusting wand. To remove stickier debris, use a soft damp cloth and plain water.

What will the sides of my canvas look like?

For photographs, the standard border type I offer is called "soft reflection". This is a soft (blurred) reflection of the front image that carries out onto the sides of the canvas, see sample here. It is very complimentary and generically suits most prints well.

Another option available is the coloured border, where the edges will be all one colour(this is standard for all text-only designs). See a sample here. If you would like a coloured border on your photograph print, it is by request only.

How do I hang my canvas prints?

Canvas prints come ready to hang, smaller sizes include an installed sawtooth hanger and the larger sizes have a heavy duty picture hanging wire installed. Using a level is recommended to hang your piece evenly. If you need a referral to a hanging specialist for large pieces or collages, I can recommend one.

What frame sizes, colours and styles are available?

Framing is done on a case-by-case basis and depends on your style and your budget. I will consult with you on your individual order and make suggestions that suit your project.
